・Prestigious institutes attracting India's best and brightest technical students
・Prestigious institutes attracting India's best and brightest technical students
・Of the 23 IITs, 5 Old IITs stand out from the rest
There are 23 IITs, with the Old IITs of IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, and IIT Kharagpur being the challenging ones.
・To prioritize the academics, job hunting is thoroughly managed by the institutes
Job hunting for IIT students is called as Placement and the rules and time frame are strictly enforced. Companies are strictly prohibited from contacting students outside of the Placements.
・Ability to recruit excellent science students
Experienced as R&D interns at global companies, data scientists, AI engineers, etc, the students are able to hit the ground running with their highly effective skills.
・Women in Tech
With a higher percentage of women in science as compared to Japan, you can also aim to recruit female engineers with leadership skills who have experience in group projects and internships.
・Lesser competition and offer declines
Students must decide whether to accept an offer on the day of the interview, and competition is only among companies participating on the same interview date. The rate of declining job offers is also very low.
・Online Interviews
Until 2019, only a limited number of companies were able to participate in the program because they had to travel to India for interviews and thus the recruitment cost was expected to be close to 10 million yen. However, with the online interviewing system, travel and other costs can be reduced, and the difficulty of participating has been lowered significantly.
Prediction
・Recruitment from top institutes such as IIT Madras, IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay will be particularly difficult
・Early into the schedule (within DAY2) at top schools will require CTC (Cost to company) of 8 million yen or more
・If students are interviewed in the order of application, there will be no students left to interview at the end of the Placement Period
Countermeasures
・It is important to choose the right IIT
・Participate in Placements at several IITs
・Participate in the pre-placements at NEW IITs
・Do not participate in Placements at famous IITs
・Improvement in how the annual salary is presented to the students
It is important to clearly note the job description. Presenting a "career-track position" (similar to what would be shown to a new graduate in Japan) does not give an image of what the job will entail after joining the company.
The key points of the salary statement are to present the total amount and the range of increases after joining the company. Especially for the former, the concept of "Cost to Company (the cost undertaken by the company for you) is emphasized.
Japanese companies that are actively recruiting in IITs have a separate HR package for IITs apart from domestic new graduates. (IITs do not disclose the offered annual salary).
In the case of data scientists and other positions for which demand is expected to increase in the future and the annual salary is expected to increase, in many cases the demanded annual salary is not so high.
・Want to refer to case studies of other companies.
・Want to know the current situation of IIT recruitment in preparation for the future.
・Want to know if it is possible to participate in Placements with the decided annual salary
・Want to know about Japanese-language training and onboarding after hiring
・Want to know which IIT is the best place to recruit
